Sistema.bio honored with Top Cooking Impact Award in 60 Decibels’ Energy Impact Index

As an organization delivering off-grid energy for farmers, our mission is to Create Value from Waste. How well are we achieving this when compared with other energy organizations? We’re proud to have been named a runner-up for the 60 Decibels Energy Top Impact Award for Cooking and the Top Performer for NPS this year! This recognition comes from scoring highly in the 60 Decibels 2024 Energy Impact Index, which benchmarks the social performance of 140+ energy organizations in 30+ countries from 2020-2023.

Sistema.bio has been collaborating with 60_Decibels since 2019. We have been conducting assessments in our primary regions, and the reports and indicators generated from these yearly assessments have been crucial in setting benchmarks for internal improvements in our products and services. Our program, “Farmer Journey,” is aimed at providing value to farmers and their families. To learn more, please click here.

The Energy Impact Index – explained

The Energy Impact Index is a customer-centric compilation of data based on the voices and experiences of over 79,000 individuals who have purchased an off-grid energy device in the last four years. The Index was first debuted in the 2020 Why Off-Grid Energy Matters report as a way to benchmark social performance by asking standardized questions across off-grid energy projects. It is from this dataset that the 2024 Energy Top Impact Awards have been calculated by looking at three key dimensions: Impact, Customer Experience, and Access. You can find more information on the full award criteria here.

The awards are acknowledged and explained further in Why Off-Grid Energy Matters 2024 – the world’s most comprehensive social impact assessment of off-grid energy to date. The report offers a unique window into the lived experience of off-grid energy end-users, defining the impact and benefits of these services in their own words. You can download the report to find out more about top performers and Impact Award winners here.

On behalf of the whole team at Sistema.bio, we are really proud to be recognized for our work, and are more motivated than ever to continue our mission of empowering and transforming the live of small-holder farmers around the world.

Sistema.bio India set a new record, installing 2,500 units in two months

Stepping into 2024, we set our sights on an ambitious goal: installing 2,500 units for Infosys across Bagalkote’s Jamkhandi, Mudhol, and Bilagi talukas, all within a  two-month timeframe. Our biggest challenge: the rocky consistency of the soil in these areas, causing a slowdown in pit digging.

Undeterred, we swiftly pivoted to professional help, ensuring that pit construction proceeded without delay. Leveraging the power of innovation, we embraced digital transformation, utilizing the SurveyCTO app to streamline every aspect of the project.

With over 75 contractors hired specially for the project, we pushed forward undaunted. Surpassing our own expectations, we achieved daily installation numbers of up to 40 units, and on extraordinary occasions, we soared to new heights, installing 120 units in a single day.

As we installed the final unit, it was not merely the completion of a project that we celebrated. It symbolized our resilience, adaptability, and steadfast dedication to triumphing over adversity.

Sistema.bio India installs highest number of productive systems in Punjab and Haryana

Our collaboration with Nestle has marked a significant achievement, as we successfully implemented 122 productive systems across 18 districts in Punjab and Haryana within a mere 10 months. Despite facing formidable challenges, including unpredictable weather conditions and logistical obstacles, our team remained steadfast in our mission to revolutionize agricultural practices in the region.

Our journey was marked by trials, from navigating remote locations to adapting to changing weather patterns. Yet, our team exhibited remarkable resilience and adaptability throughout. With each unit installed, we not only promoted sustainable agricultural practices but also made a substantial socio-economic impact within the communities we served.

The ripple effects of our efforts were evident, with a noticeable increase in local employment opportunities and economic prosperity. As we celebrate this milestone, we do so with pride and anticipation for the future. Our commitment to empowering farmers and combating climate change propels us into the next phase of growth and impact with fervor.

Sistema.bio India successfully completes its first Carbon Program

We’re thrilled to announce that we have completed our first carbon program in India. Registered with Gold Standard in 2022 under the name India Dairy Biogas Program, we have successfully installed 37,500 units across different regions of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Assam, and Karnataka.

Our aim was to reduce farmer reliance on fossil fuels by providing biodigesters tailored to their needs, ranging from Sistema 6 to Sistema 20 and above.

This initiative has not only generated high-quality carbon credits by reducing emissions from dairy activities but also advanced various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

Through this program we have seeded 400,000 tons of carbon credits, which will be generated over the next 10 years. Moving forward, we’re committed to promoting sustainability and addressing climate change challenges, inspired by the success of our first carbon program to explore new opportunities for a greener future.

Sistema.bio’s Uganda Scaling Journey

Sistema.bio Uganda has finally received its long overdue but well-deserved anniversary gift: a brand new office in the heart of Kampala! This milestone marks a significant moment in our journey to expand access to clean energy solutions across the country.

In line with this scaling initiative, Sistema.bio Uganda has adopted the successful ‘agent model’ from Kenya to drive sales.  Teaming up with our esteemed partners— Ecosafe, DRECO, JEEP, and Enercom in Central Uganda; Bold, Adriani, and Resi in Western Uganda; and Sefa in Eastern Uganda — we aim to deploy 60 agents across the regions. Through comprehensive training sessions, we’ve equipped these agents with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively promote our solutions.

As part of our commitment to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement, our partners from Uganda recently embarked on a week-long visit to our Nairobi office. During this visit, they gained insights into our best practices and success stories from Kenya. Among these partners are Bold, Ecosafe, and Sefa, who have played pivotal roles in Sistema.bio’s journey in Uganda over the past year. This collaborative endeavor underscores our dedication to scaling impact and promoting sustainable agricultural practices across the region.

LATAM News

Sistema.bio Mexico and Colombia open spaces for conversations about carbon credits and the impact of biodigesters

In Mexico and Colombia, Public Consultations were held on the registration of the carbon bond program of Sistema.bio biodigesters, which are part of the Gold Standard certification.

These sessions provided a platform to showcase the technology’s operation, its impacts, and co-benefits. From reducing carbon emissions to promoting clean energy and improving community quality of life, biodigesters are making a significant difference in the Latin American region.

The Colombian consultation, in particular, was significant not only because it was the first conducted by Sistema.bio in the country but also because it served as a great opportunity for the company’s positioning. Government guests from the Ministries of Health and Social Protection, Mines and Energy, and Environment and Sustainable Development, as well as representatives from NGOs, local leaders, partners, and technology users, discussed the project.

With that, Sistema.bio LATAM opens the door to many conversations on environmental impact and carbon credits, positioning us as pioneers in initiating these debates in Colombia. With significant public participation in both events, we are sowing the seeds for environmental sustainability and community development that we hope will yield great results in the coming months.

Sistema.bio LATAM strengthens its strategy for productive systems

The momentum of Sistema.bio LATAM in the development and sale of productive systems is reaching new levels of success. Recently, the entire team received a certification, under an interdisciplinary approach and with the presence of partners, that strengthened the project development, strategy, and focus for Mexico, Colombia, and Central America.

Additionally, an exciting visit to pig producers in Colombia was conducted, where invaluable information about their needs and uses was gathered. Moreover, in collaboration with the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in Colombia, innovations in the strategy of productive systems were evaluated, aiming to generate products that benefit our producers.

This innovative strategy not only benefits agricultural users in the region but also compels us within Sistema.bio to constantly innovate, aiming to find the best products and achieve greater impact with our technology.
