The case
At the Patitapaban Seva Sangha in Odisha, a unique community of elderly residents and children with disabilities now enjoys a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle thanks to Sistema.bio’s biogas system.
Before this installation, the ashram’s kitchen relied on traditional chulhas (wood-fired stoves) to cook for over 200 residents, resulting in severe smoke exposure that compromised the health of the elderly.
The lack of clean cooking solutions also posed challenges to the quality of life for children in the community.
The solution
Since installing the biogas plant in 2023, the ashram has transformed its daily routines.
The community now benefits from a smoke-free cooking environment, significantly improving the well-being of its elderly residents.
The biogas system provides clean, reliable energy for cooking, eliminating the need for harmful, smoke-producing chulhas and enhancing the health of everyone involved.
Sistema.bio results
Beyond providing clean cooking energy, the biogas plant produces nutrient-rich biofertilizer that is used on the ashram’s farm. This biofertilizer has greatly enriched the soil, boosting the productivity of fresh vegetables and fostering self-sufficiency for the ashram.
The Patitapaban Seva Sangha community has gained more than just a new cooking system; the children are learning about sustainability firsthand, building values that align with environmental stewardship.
This project highlights the power of clean energy to create healthier, more sustainable communities while instilling a sense of self-reliance and environmental consciousness in future generations.
